Finally it has happened!! I am going to Everest Base Camp. We are starting on 26th march and back on 7th April.

It all happened out of the blue last Thursday. The morning I was telling my dad that I want to do Everest base camp this year. In office, was speaking about this to my mgr about this and got his tentative permission. After lunch I met a couple of friends and casually asked when are their friend organizing the trek this year and my friend called up her friend and I spoke to her immediatly and was settled in a matter of min.
Since then I am working to get things done. Now all the travel arrangements have been made. Need to do some shopping and then va va voom!!!

Will keep you posted regularly on this!!

A new Era

With Fabulous Fab taking charge of the team formally, I am hoping for a new dawn. I could write a looong piece on why I feel this could be the start of a beatiful friendship between Arsenal and success, but I think everyone knows it.

Long live the King!!

Woes of Arsenal

I really do not want to write my first blog on Arsenal, when we are at the absolute bottom of the pit of misery. So I am holding out for a comprehensive win today, so I can start blogging.

A Question about Soul

Couple of things.
I had an very interesting conversation with one of my collegues about what a soul is and what it can do? I am not sure about the existance of souls. But if it exists, I am going to find out. So as ramana maharishi asked "Who am I?"

One of the most interesting books I have read in the last week is "Host". In terestingly it is about a sentinent alien beings called "Souls" who occupy the entire world by taking over the body of each and every person on the planet. I think the author is Stephenie Meyer. It talks about that doomsday scenario and how the nature of relationship between the body-mind-soul work which was exactly the conversation I had with my collegue.

Is it coincidence or does that mean there is a grand scheme of things?

Why Gilberto didn't get the armband!

Wenger made a statement yesterday saying:

"What I hate the most in this job are people who are always nicey nice and behave well. But at the end of the day they cheat a little bit with their commitment. I prefer sometimes a guy who goes overboard without hurting anybody who cares about winning."

And now we know why after Henry who was also a Mr. NiceGuy himself he didn't pick another one like him and went back to Paddy's attitude again. Hopefully we do justice to our talent today with Aston Villa and win the League for Eduardo and the rest of the boys. Go Gunners!!

Favorite Authors : Gergette Heyer

This is the beginning of a series of blogs on my favorite authors. I am an eclectic reader whose favorite generes are Fantasy, SF, Historical, Regency and Science.

Out of these my favorite guilty pleasure is Heyer. She was born in early last century in UK and had quite life until she was 18 or so, when her younger brother fell ill. To pass his time, she concocted a romance with lots of fight set in late Georgian era. She sent a manuscript of that story("Black Moth") to a publisher and a publishing phenomenon was born.

In a career spanning more than three decades, she published more than 40 regencies for which she was popular. I loved her style of language in almost all the books. She is very good in irony and sarcasm (fav are Sylvester, These old shades and Regency buck). There are a good collection of snippets of her works at her website.

I like her books for her ability to craft silly but fun conversations between the characters. Also her historical novels about medieval England are also good for her use of authentic language.

The major issue with her writing is lack of originality (almost all of her books are written using the same few templates) so it feels like reading the same book again and again with different colors. This was essentially because in later years, due to her husband's profligacy she was forced to write more and more books which obviously have an impact on the quality and originality. so pick the best books of the different template and read only them :)

The second issue with her is that she idolizes English and English Aristocracy. The facts during that time and the facts that she presents in books like "Infamous Army" are not even close. British army did as much looting and pillaging in Spanish peninsula as the French did.

for me she was the reason I rediscovered Regency novels by contemporary authors.

my favorite reads:
Arabella
Regency Buck
Sylvester
Frederica
These Old Shades
My Lord John
